Road Construction

Highway 50 Construction & What It Means for Dan’s
Construction on Highway 50 between Highway 61 and Highway 52 is beginning, led by the Minnesota Department of Transportation. This project includes general roadway improvements such as new culverts, drainage updates, and a mill-and-overlay resurfacing.
Right now, preparation work has begun and access to Dan’s Bar & Grill is not impacted.

That will change later this summer.
Phase 1: Temporary Closure (Starting July 13)
Beginning July 13, construction will move into a major phase within New Trier city limits. This includes redirecting water systems and fully reconstructing the intersection at Highway 50 and Hogan Avenue, right where Dan’s is located.
During this phase, access from the east side of New Trier through to Highway 52 will be heavily impacted. The official detour that allows access to New Trier from the west is significant, adding roughly 20 miles. While there may be some gravel road alternatives, they are not practical or safe for regular customer or staff access.
Because of this, Dan’s Bar & Grill will be closed during Phase 1, which is expected to run through Labor Day weekend.
Phase 2: Reopening with Limited Impact
Phase 2 is scheduled to begin immediately after Phase 1 wraps up and is expected to be completed by mid-October. While this phase will still affect access from the east on Highway 50, the detours will be less disruptive.
Our plan is to reopen during Phase 2 and continue serving you while construction is ongoing.
Staying Flexible
As with any major construction project, timelines and details may shift. We’ve established an open and transparent line of communication with MnDOT and will adjust our plans if conditions change.
We look forward to welcoming you back as soon as it’s safe and practical to do so. We’ll keep you updated every step of the way.
